TORRIJAS: SPANISH FRENCH TOAST
TORRIJAS: SPANISH FRENCH TOASTS
Hello everybody!
I’m back with a new dessert recipe. During these weeks I’ve been having lots of work and I do not have too much time to write a post, but finally I found the moment to do it.
This recipe is a traditional Spanish dessert and it is something typical to eat during Easter time. So..., as it is typical in Spain, I decided to post this recipe in English for my international followers.
I want to dedicate this post to Anne Bleu (David’s girlfriend) because she asked me about this recipe two months ago.
Ok! Let’s prepare it!!
TORRIJAS: EASTER TIME DESSERT
Ingredients (For 6 persons)
6 slices of one day old bread (Italian round bread)
1 egg
375 millilitres of milk
4 tablespoons of sugar
2 tablespoons of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of lemon rind
Olive Oil
For the syrup:
125 millilitres of water
4 tablespoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of lemon rind
For the Topping:
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
How to prepare it:
Heat the milk with the sugar, cinnamon and lemon rind until it starts to boil. Remove it from the heat until it cools down.
Beat the egg with a little bit of sugar. Soak the slices of bread in the milk and afterwards in the beaten egg. Fry each sliced in a pan with hot olive oil. Once they are fried put them in a plate and set aside.
Now, is time to prepare “EL ALMIBAR”(syrup). For that, put in a small pot the sugar with the water and the other teaspoon of lemon rind. Heat all together until you obtain the syrup.
Pour the syrup over the fried bread and then sprinkle with a mix of cinnamon and sugar and ….. enjoy them!!. They are delicious…
I hope you like them!. Take care and… see you soon!!
Daddy.
